Baptisms

Baptisms (English and Spanish) are celebrated most Sundays during the month in the Church at 1:00 PM.

For Spanish Baptisms, please contact Teresa Nunez at 631.336.7469.

Five (5) Children are Baptized at each Ceremony during the month.

Parents will meet with a member of the Infant Jesus Baptism Ministry prior to setting a Baptism date.

In order to secure the date requested for your child’s Baptism, the following documents must be returned to the office. 

• Copy of your child’s birth certificate.
• Copy of the Sponsor form* for at least one Godparent.

Parents are required to attend a Baptism Preparation Class and must call the office to Register for a class.  Sponsors are encouraged to attend but are not required.

Baptism dates are not finalized until all documentation has been received and the parent(s) have attended the Baptism Preparation class, and the family has been contacted by the Office.

Sponsors:

Only one Godparent is required. If you elect to have both, it would be a female and a male to reflect each Parent. 

A valid sponsor must be at least 16 years of age, fully initiated in the Catholic Church through Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation, and living in harmony with the teachings of the Catholic Church. If the sponsor is married, the marriage should have taken place in a Roman Catholic Church or is formally recognized by the Roman Catholic Church.

*Sponsor form – This form needs to be filled out, signed, and dated by the designated sponsor(s) and taken to the Church where registered to be reviewed, signed by a Priest or Delegate, and stamped with the Church seal.

Christian Witness:

Provided there is one Catholic sponsor, a baptized, non-Catholic Christian may serve as a Christian witness for Baptism only.

A Christian witness must be at least 16 years of age, a validly baptized Christian, and living a Christian life.  A copy of their Baptismal certificate must be submitted to the office.

Other information:

The Baptism ceremony is approximately 1 hour.  We ask families to arrive 15 minutes early, so families can be seated, and we can start on time.

There is no fee for Baptisms at Infant Jesus.  A free will offering is welcome.
